N-A-C is an amino acid that helps the liver produce glutathione, which detoxifies tylenol, alcohol, mushroom toxins, heavy metals and more. It needs to be balanced by 3x as much mixed antioxidants, such as vit C and E. I use time release NAC, since it is processed out of the body in 2 hours otherwise. Best to take it 3x daily, with Vit C each time.
Another great antioxidant I use is Alpha lipoic acid is the mother of all antioxidants, helping recycle both C and E as well as being both oil and water soluble. It is especially good for diabetics and helps them avoid or recover from peripheral neuropathy. It is the only nutrient proven to be effective in reversing peripheral neuropathy and has been prescribed for that in Germany for many years.
This combo really makes me feel better. The dark circles have lighted and my undereye area is less puffy -- just tiny puffs on the top of my cheek bones left. On a bad day, I used to have bags I could see when looking down. My mother and great grandmother had them as well. I look five years younger now, though I still have hollows under my eyes.
Another herb that is good for the liver is milk thistle. I used that for quite a while before starting NAC and it helped a bit. It protects the liver and encourages regeneration. It is counter indicated with chemotherapy, because it nutralizes some of the medicines.
These nutrients will help the liver help you as you cleanse. The liver takes on a heavier load as you detox, so they may also reduce detox reactions.
