Re: The Truth About Antidepressants.
To Al Sears,
I read your above article with interest. My wife, Barb has been undergoing treatment for melanoma for a couple of years. The treatment has been successful so far, but she had to drop it because of side effects of Iterferon, one of the components. She has a long history of anxiety and depression, which she has handled very well by realizing what is going on and living with it. Along with the treatment she was given such meds as cymbalta for her depression, with severe side effects, even making her anxiety worse. She has severe side effects from most all medications, by the way. Her oncologist is proposing a new treatment to hold the melanoma at bay, which in itself looks promising and involves mostly Tagamet, surprisingly. She is reluctant to start because of apprehension of yet more side effects along with the anxiety and depression. She is now on Alprazolam which doesn't seem to help either.
We are at our wits end trying to find some way to alleviate the anxiety and
Depression so she can confidently start the treatment, as well as enjoy life. As far as exercise is concerned, she cannot be very active, it hurts to walk because of chronic back and neck pain from
Arthritis and scoliosis. She has activities which she enjoys like quilting and bird watching which keeps her mind active.
We would appreciate any comments you might offer and I will gladly provide more info if needed.
Thank you, Bill
