What I find amazing is how quickly the toxins took effect in the oil that was spread. Judy writes that on May 26, 1971, she had the oil spread over her horse arena to control the dust, then "early June, 1971" all the birds died, then the cats lost their fur and developed yellow oozing sores and died. And also in that June her kids started developing a black rash. And the dog died, and horses already started to get sick. That quick! This stuff killed EVERYTHING, even the flies. You know how hard it is to get rid of flies, nothing phases them, so that gives you some idea of how toxic the oil was.
