Re: Epsom salts and ingrown toenail + fungus

Thx for the info about potassium permaganate. Mine is heavily diluted though: 0.1% w/v(whatever the w/v means). Even then, it's very very strong after being diluted 1 part to 8 parts water! It stains my hands and I can feel it killing much of the bacteria right away.

Yes, it is some really strong stuff. I made a 1;50,000 solution once, which is a concentrate by adding one tiny 5 grain tablet in a gallon and a half of water. When I had a cold I took a large glass of this and chugged it down. Tasted like liquid metal going down, an turned my tongue green but the symptoms were gone in less than a minute. I use it in my aquariums quite a bit to help oxidize pathogens, parasites and some of the organics I do not want in the tank. Just a the tip of a spoon full in my 150 gallon tank is more than enough. As an experiment once I added one spoon full to my pool to kill the algae. The spoon full turned the entire pool very dark purple for a few days. It is some incredible stuff, and one of the strongest oxidizers known. But for that last reason it also has to be used with great care. In powder form it can burn the skin and mixed with some other compounds such as glycerine or charcoal it can cause fires or explosions. So it is best to stick to the dilute stuff and as I pointed out earlier keep it away from glycerine and petroleum jelly. This includes the Vick's Vapor Rub!
