Should I get my Wisdom Teeth out?
Hi MH and everyone,
I'm looking for advice on whether or not I should get my wisdom teeth pulled. Both of the top ones have grown out at an odd angle so that they point out towards my cheek. This makes them difficult to brush the way it presses into the cartilage of my jaw, hard to get a toothbrush between it.
The one on the right is a little worse, it emerged earlier than the other by a year or two so it is hardest to clean. This one on the right is beginning to decay now, I stuck a little dental mirror in there myself and I can see that it has plaque and some black on it, kinda gross. Dentist said it has a small cavity in it also. But I don't have any pain, just some cold sensitivity sometimes.
I was thinking I should get this one taken out because it may be some hidden infection that is poisoning my blood stream?? But I don't like doing any dental work if I don't have to.
The dentist, of course, is suggesting that I have them both removed because the other one will surely become just like the first in time, and this way I would be getting all the pain and recovery over with in one go.
It kind of grosses me out having this nasty tooth hiding in the back of my mouth, but I'm not really keen on having gaping holes in my mouth either. Although it would be a great reason to go back on the OJ fast for January.
I would probably wait on this for a while, as I have been, but my husband is being laid off in March, so its my last chance at having insurance take care of it. We don't plan on getting insurance again, rather we're opting out of the slavery and starting a new homestead for our family.
So do you think this tooth is making me sicker, or should I just clean it well as I can and get on with my new healthy life?
And if you do think I should get it extracted, is there any protocol I should insist on for it? For example, my husband suggests I should make sure they stitch up the holes, but the dentist I spoke with says it heals better if you let it close on it's own.
Thanks very much in advance!
Blessings,
Laurie
