Carlin's satire points more at the absurdity of a guy in the sky notion. That is also why he juxstaposed it with things like the Easter Bunny, etc.
Carlin's biting satire works so well because it pushes buttons of rationality at a deeper core than where notion of fantasy's lie.
Yes George passed away and is no longer doing "stand up" comedy but perhaps a newer, lighter form of ethereal comedy. Unless of course the fantasy of christian psychosis that he identified so well in his work is correct after all, in which he is roasting in hell, helping to keep the loving heart of "god" nice and warm.
