Re: Fasting and... Optimal Exercise

Mamaducky,
I strongly disagree with this fasting Doctor that you refer to, in that exercise whilst fasting accelerates the elimination of toxins.
This is only partially true for the lymph which has no pump of its own and can stagnate within the lymph system

With the exclusion of gentle and short duration rebounding whilst fasting, exercise will waste bodily energies that would otherwise be used in the cleansing and healing process, and therefore inhibit the elimination of toxins.

Therapeutic fasting allows the organs to empty and rest, which conserves energy; this promotes the elimination of waste and accumulated toxins, making cell regeneration much more efficient. This is reduced significantly by exercise whilst fasting and was/is the experience of professional Hygienists.

However, each case should really be judged on an individual basis..............

Dr Joel Fuhrman MD. in Eat To Live..............
"I give my fasters gentle stretching exercises to do to keep their backs flexible, and encourage them to walk around a little, but discourage any strenuous exercise. ... We want to give the body a complete rest so that it can devote its energies to healing."

Dr. Isabelle A. Moser...........
"The correct activity level on a fast should be arrived at on an individual basis. I have had clients who walked six miles a day during an extended water fast, but they were not feeling very sick when they started the fast, and they were also physically fit.
In contrast I have had people on extended fasts who were unable to walk for exercise, or so weak they were unable to even walk to the bathroom, but these people were critically ill when they started fasting, and desperately needed to conserve what little vital force they had for healing."

Just one other point here is that fasting is essentially a physiological rest, where the body will strive to conserve its energy and food reserves to the maximum; exercise generally will not only waste energy that would otherwise be used for cleansing and healing, but consume food reserves more rapidly, and shorten the length of the fast unnecessarily.
This can mean a very real difference between success and failure of the goals of the fast.

Best wishes.

Chrisb1.
