Kelp anomaly (it's anomaly day)

I just started using Starwest Botanicals ($3.50/pound) Ascophyllum and I got a distinct buzz of energy the first time I took it. I had not gotten this from the other kelps, including Frontier's Laminaria Digitata.

Any ideas about this?

I will say that the Ascophyllum tasted noticeably worse, and even had an after taste. It is very finely powdered though. Nasty stuff, but I'll gladly chug it if this energy thing continues.
