Very low self esteem from previous experiences... Solution?

Hi,

I've had a really rocky time with men. I'm 20 years old and I've only had what you could maybe call a boyfriend for a couple weeks, but we did not hit it off. All of the other times I've just been walked all over, ditched, ignored, and in general made to feel like shit for coming out to people about my feelings. Nowadays, and I know this is irrational, I can't help but feel that if I'm still alone, I must not deserve to be loved the way everybody else gets to, and there's just something missing in me. I don't feel appealing, I don't feel like a guy could ever have real feelings for me or that I'm worth the time... If they ever did, I think I would probably fight it to no end. People try to tell me that relationships come when you're not expecting it and plenty of people enter the dating world late, and that there's someone for everyone, and those are all nice ideas, but when you're still all alone and have heard the same stuff for years without any results, they don't exactly help.

I thought I had learned to appreciate being single and working on other aspects of my life, but now I'm back down to wondering about why I haven't had a fighting chance with someone for so long and why it seems so easy for the people around me to get with someone. I'm not really asking for dating advice. But has anyone been through this and found a way to gain back their self esteem?
