Re: Liberal Lies About National Health Care: First In a Series
Come on charge. These are not liberal lies. This is just a difference in opinion.
The truth is that I had a family policy and paid $700 per month. That is until my husband got sick. The next year, the insurance went up to $3000 per month. That is what private insurance companies do and that is what a public option - like Medicare - would not do.
I had a friend who was scheduled for surgery, so she called the insurance company to be sure that everything would be covered. They told her yes. After the surgery and the hospitalization, the insurance company said they made a mistake and would not cover any of her expenses - over $250,000. This would not happen had she been covered under a government plan.
Over my life time, I have spent countless hours fighting insurance companies over "denial of service" claims. My son broke his hand and the insurance company said they didn't cover those services. So after hours and day on the phone, they finally paid. But I felt that they owed me a salary. And this kind of thing happened many times over the years.
It is the insurance companies that need to be regulated. Of course, any regulations mean less money for their shareholders and maybe the CEO wouldn't make several million dollars a year. And that is why they are fighting tooth and nail to kill any health care reform bill.
