Re: Vodka + Wormwood/EDIT
The principle behind extraction is that whatever extractOR is used for the extractION--be it grain alcohol, water or glycerin-- whatever is being used for that purpose-- is what extracts all the necessary components of the herb the best.
Why would you put grain alcohol into an herb whose ingredients were extracted by water, unless you are mixing that herb with other herbs that have been made into a tincture using grain alcohol as the extractor? I can't see the reasoning behind it. The sick liver can handle the alcohol in the dewormer, but any appreciable amount of grain alcohol, in general, is NOT good for a sick liver or body. It's not the fact that the alcohol is the importnt ingredient, rather that it has been the best extractor of whatever main herb that is in the mixture that you need. The kidneys use water to concentrate hydrogen ions, filter out what it doesn't need and retain in the body what it does need for minerals to balance out the body's electrolytes. It gets rid of other waste products and pathological stuff, too, that's excreted in the urine like crystals, bacteria and urea and so forth. Kidneys in a sick body don't need the extra alcohol, either, IMO.
So what's the point in adding the alcohol to the wormwood tea, alone, after it has already been made using water as the extractor of it's ingredients?
The body makes a certain amount of alcohol on it's own, anyway. It seems to know what to do when healthy to get rid of toxins.
EDIT: Good point and information, tho. Shows somebody's thinking. Maybe Doc can shed some more light on the subject.
