Re: Lawn Care Chemical’s Deadly Secret Report: A labeling loophole means the world’s most common herbicide is even more toxic than originally believed.

Our grass is green, this year. Thanks to what may feel like an unusual amount of rain, tho this is actually normal. Gaia is bleeding, I think.

We live in an urban, very old area. Old, historic in terms of N. Europeans in these parts, part of town. Not bad, tho I would prefer the boonies. Here because of medical proximity.

Result is we have a lawn, usually green, except in drought years, which we have had several. We also live in a most conservative district where people hate to pay taxes and have voted down tax increases forever.

Result- The roads are in very, very bad shape, water planning went out the windows 50 years ago and the 100 year plan has not only failed, it has failed badly. The city had to go out and buy more water rights from the Arkansas River, something they didn't plan on doing for 40-50 years. Problem is, most of the water has already been sold to California.

On top of this city thinking the way into the future was growth growth growth for 50 years. A poster child for what greedy, military and retired military, highly conservative, right wing, no gubmint intervention on one side but the answer to our problems is to bring in 12,000 more military serviceman to an army post that cannot properly train them down range, low taxes, evangelical bible belt mega churches on the north side.

Short of it is, infrastructure is in very poor shape. People hate to admit it, but for the first time, they are talking about, taxes. They already raised the auto registration $40. No, not $4. $40. That is huge in this area. To try and make up lost revenue. People are screaming. There is finally noise from the city council about a tax increase. It is hateful to even talk about it. Worse is the grubbing for the stimulus monies coming from the current administration to help with the road, the power and water, etc. Hate Obama, but want 'his' federal money, but but... no taxes.

County even implemented, without a vote to the citizens, a rain tax. That's right. Rain tax. Based on satellite photos on your property, you pay less if you have lawn to absorb rain, more if you have structure or concrete. Rain tax. A result of an utter lack of imagination by, well, by a style of people for the last 60 years that got this city into this mess.

What does this have to do with my lawn? I was able to let it wither and landscape it, when it started raining in May, and has not stopped. Everything is amazingly green. Everywhere. Including, weeds. It has also given a totally false sense of recovery to the shorthsighted thinkers. I have seen a lot of folks out there weeding. So, I go and get a spray bottle of weed remover, grass retainer, and send my sweetie away before. I usually pull them, but it has overwhelmed the lawns very fast. I apply it, staying upwind during application so as to not breath it.

Right.

That night, I am laid out. Headaches, body aches. Miserable. Windows are shut, but cannot think this is not just my lawn, but others around me too as others took advantage of the weekend and a respite from the rain to attack it.

Wow. Whoa is more like it. That is the last time I do that. I have never been able to walk into a store with fertilizer without getting queezy. But my reaction this time was amazing, and I thought I was being careful. That is the last time I do that.

Now, what am I going to think when I drive through farm lands in Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, etc, and see those John Deere's in the fields. Well, now I know what to think.

I want to live at the bottom of the sea.

Or go live in Green Acres with Oliver and Lisa.

BTW, I did some quick things that got me reasonably right again. But sheesh.
