Re: 4th of July message....

Terrific missive. Read all. One thesis point that jumped out...

"That having been said, however, there is a major difference between those on the Left and the Right, as demonstrated by our most recent national elections. Those on the Left tend to form a more unified front for the purpose of electability; they tend to embrace a "win at all costs" philosophy, while those on the right tend to spend valuable political capital drawing distinctions between and among themselves."

I would submit that both parties tend to embrace a "win at all costs" mentality. I would also submit that the left actually created a disparate culture towards driving distinctions amongst them selves in the latest at least Presidential elections, than the GOP. The divisiveness that was fomented between the actors involved grew quite vicious for many weeks. Read Obama and Clinton camps. The conservatives didn't stick to their 'do no harm to fellow conservatives' mantra and did follow that drawing distinction tact. Agreed. But not nearly to the extent that the liberals did this last go around, in the prez race I am suggesting.

The libs ended up banding together, to win, yes. But it was not always the culture, and the conservatives to me got away from their core values. Thing was, the core values were so rife with problems, the last being a tanked economy, I mean, who didn't see the pendulum swing coming had to be asleep.

I really want the conservatives to pick up the pieces and pull together again because while I can't stand a two party machine, especially THIS two party machine, it is what it is, and at least it would be reasonable to want at least some DEBATE instead of this incessant opinion monger-ing. Of all the things that has evaporated from the conservative culture, it is ideas. Just plain, simple, ideas. That leaves one party who happens to be in power, pressing forth ideas. Like the last 8 years, if you are right, you win. If you are wrong, you lose. The Dems, if they are wrong, will get tossed out on their ears deservedly so. The crummy thing about all this is, the GOP has got to not just congeal as a party, but they have got to establish real ideas, and not just the simple formation of a party that just wants to win at all costs. They have some real problems, and their own members who cling to for instance this family values thing really need to start living it, or at least expelling its own members who don't, because in the simple minds of people like me, 5 second perceptions of a few bad apples spreads wide and deep. That it keeps happening is a constant drumbeat against the ear... the number of people tossed out due to ethics violations, indictments, hanky panky, etc, is just not stopping. Someone for instance needs to sidle up to Mark Sanford's ear and tell him to SHUT THE F**K UP. But they won't stop talking. We need ideas man. Ideas. And debate.

Personally, I think we're in way deep do-do that may not get cleaned up. By this current crop of actors, on every side.

Oh, and your statement about human nature v nature law... dead nuts on imo, too.
