Re: desperate for funds, states take to highway robbery

I've had a $500 ticket for running a stop light with one of those lousy machines. I no longer run stop lights. What irks me is those machines are owned by corporations that get a cut. They could be foreign corporations. Think up the most perverse scenario and that's usually what's going on.

On our CA freeways, if you're not going 70 MPH you will be trampled by everyone. I go 70 MPH and their are plenty rocketing past as though I'm not moving. The freeways are designed for 70 MPH. Jimmy Carter put in the absurd speed of 55 MPH. What wastes gasoline is accelerating quickly, excessive braking, and changing your speed too often. If the speed is within reason it really doesn't have that much effect.

Of course it would be much safer to go slower. If someone isn't involved in an accident every single day the freeways would mover more quickly even at a slower pace. Why don't we have the money go to the taxpayers instead of the black hole rip off? Pay off the national Dept or something instead of yet another scam?
