I neglected to thank you for your generous reply to my question regarding your diet a while ago so thankyou for that. I'm just now starting myself on a similarly restrictive diet just to see if it makes any difference to my symptoms.
I completed a 15 day course of co-trimoxazole a couple of weeks ago now and midway through the treatment I was feeling great (best I have since getting blasto). Unfortunately by the last few days of it I could tell that it wasn't beaten because the tell-tale gurgling and rumbling was back, though in a very mild form at first. A few days after finishing the treatment diarrhoea was back and I am now back at square one.
I was initially not to upset about it returning because I felt that the fact the drugs had such a big impact on my wellbeing proved that the blastocystis was the cause of the problems and that my doctor (infectious disease specialist) would much more enthusiastic to treat it...couldn't have been more wrong. Apparently any effect the drug had was probably just a "placebo effect" because blastocystis is "not pathogenic". This is despite the fact the information they refer to in the clinic itself says that pathogenicity is uncertain with studies being inconclusive.
Having to argue with the doctors makes this whole ordeal so much worse then it already would be. I know that it's possibly not the cause of the problems, I concede that. But equally, it possibly is the cause of the problems so why the hell wouldn't we try to eliminate that possibility?
Please do give us an update on how are you are. I hope it works for you!
