Re: Armed Forces Day is Tomorrow, says thanks to someone who served..
"Snuffle will be up soon so I have to get back to my hole. Covering my tracks in the snow takes a lot of practice but I'm good at it. Please, I tell you and my fellow Americans to turn off the TV sets and move on with your lives. The story line you are getting from CNN and other news agencies is utter BS and designed not to deliver truth but rather to keep you glued to the screen through the commercials. We've got this one under control.
The worst thing you guys can do right now is sit around analyzing what we're doing over here because you have no idea what we're doing and, really, you don't want to know. We are your military and we are doing what you sent us here to do."
Snakeater, thank you so much for posting this. I don't think the majority of the people realize just how passionate our men and women who are fighting for our country are. They take the defense of our country serious, they have a job to do and they are proud to do it in the face of the kind of adversity most of us will never know. The way our media is covering the war is appalling I wish more people would understand that.
When my son decided to join the Navy he told his dad first because he knew how upset I would be. Its always hard on the loved ones who are left at home to wonder if they will ever see their loved one again, but at the time he enlisted there was no war. My son was in the Aircorp of the Navy, he was on land 18 months and at sea for 6 month tours. He was on the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier doing his 6 month tour when this war broke out. Needless to say I was a nervous wreck the whole time, his squadron flew strike missions.
Its a very different feeling you have when you have a loved one over there. I know because I was one who really didn't think much about it when we were in war but I'll tell you what, thats changed now. Whether or not we believe in the war we should always support our troops. Those men and women were sent there to perform their duty as a part of our military and we need to do all we can to make things a little easier. I know we can't really make it easier for them but by sending care packages with things they need and things like cookies and treats from home do make them feel like they are appreciated for what they're doing. Even if you don't know anyone serving overseas you can find groups in your area who send packages to platoons on a regular basis. It also helps them to get letters telling them we appreciate them and what they're doing.
I salute every single one of those who are defending our country.
