Yay Vitamix

Hi Willow :),

"I'm so happy to hear you got one too, isn't it great? I really didn't expect it to be quite so powerful even after watching all those videos."

It really is great. I too was delighted with the power once i came face to face with it. The youtube sized videos didn't do anything to impress me ;).

"I don't think you can even put the VitaMix in the blender category can you because its not really fair to the blender family lol."

haha, how right you are. It is so very much in a class all it's own :).

"You have really been experimenting, thats great."

I've only just begun ;). Just did a blended tomato drink a couple days ago... and it was very nice. Tried raw italian squash and it was quite bad :p.

"I made potato soup tonight its hard to believe you can actually cook in it. The soup was great I just made a small batch because I'm still losing weight but it sounded so good."

Yes it is quite a strange feature for a blender to posess :). I do my kale/collard/swiss chard puree soups in this way. don't like these particular greens raw (unfortunately), so i juice them for their broth and make a puree soup out of the green leafy portions of the juiced pulp.

"I just had the one green smoothie and the potato soup today because I wasn't really all that hungry and I'm wondering if it was due to the smoothie I had, all the nutrients I'm not used to getting."

you might be on to something. the green smoothie might have done something to diminish your appetite. certain foods do that for me, like if i drink raw garlic juice (watered down of course lest it burn me) :). I know that you know you should keep your calories at a certain level. I'd be concerned that your day was a bit on the low side, you too?

"I'm going to avoid the fruit only smoothies while trying to lose weight due to the high natural Sugar content."

Since i am on a high calorie protocol (of about 3000) i include them :). I love how i have been able to eliminate all unhealthy sweets from my diet and delightedly enjoy lots of varied fruits in their stead.

"I also like the fact that the VitaMix ruptures the cell walls which allow the nutrients to be more readily available than chewing."

I think about that a lot. I even was eating some amaranth the other day and felt it was impossible to chew it properly, so i blended it into a creamy concoction like cream of rice :).

"Unlike you, I don't like all the green super foods especially if I have to chew them so this is the way I'm acquiring a taste for them."

I think it's great that the vitamix enables you to bring these foods into your diet. Yes i do like lighter raw greens like any variety of lettuce and spinach, but i wish i also could enjoy kale, etc. raw. Even as a raw juice hidden within delightful carrot juice i'm really not so interested... though i might eventually try to ease into something like that.

"They tell me the more smoothies I make the less fruit I'll have to use as I get used to the greens."

That's the word on the streets. What % of fruit to greens are you using now? What types of greens are you using? How does your stomach seem to like the mixtures?

"The health benefits that can be gained from using this machine are amazing. It has opened up a whole new world of nutrition for me that I was having a hard time attaining. I was doing good on a mostly plant based diet but I was limited to what I could tolerate chewing which wasn't much."

I so agree and even more so in your case than in mine since you weren't able to eat/enjoy lettuces and spinach before. Anybody in nutrition sings the praises of green leafy vegetables. The fact that you are now able to include these super foods will give you an amazing nutritional boost.

"My son got it for me for Mothers Day so I was lucky but yes it is worth every darn cent even though I didn't have to pay for it."

What a great gift! Nice son :).

"I got the Mothers Day Special so it came with an insulated farmers market bag, an insulated smoothie cup, and the spatula & cutting mat set free. It was supposed to come with an apron but I don't use one so they exchanged it for the cup. They threw in the spatula & mat set free, my son was going to order it and they gave it to him."

That reminds me. Anybody want a red vitamix apron and farmers market bag? :p. I wish i had remembered to trade for the smoothie cup, the spatula and the mat. The guy i talked to made it sound like that flexibility didn't exist.

"If in all of your experimenting you find something really yummy please post it and I'll to the same."

The tomato drink was a nice surprise and in addition to any and all fruit drinks, (i've done pineapple, strawberries, grapefruit, oranges, apples, pears, blueberries, mixed berries and various "sound" combinations) i like a nice veggie smoothie of a carrot, some lettuce, a red bell pepper and a half stick of celery. The carrot makes it a little bit sweet.

It is really exciting to have this masterful work of art in the kitchen :D.

Best wishes in everything,

Mighty Sun.
