I've read recently that glycerin, which is a typcially ingredient in toothpaste, coats the teeth and prevents remineralization (demineralized teeth are sensitive and prone to decay). I don't know how accurate that information is, but there are a few products out there that you can get without glycerin, or maybe use something like baking soda.
