do not shower with soap... this strips the lipids from the skin which are required for metabolic processes... including D synthesis from cholesterol...
I believe that "science" will find a direct correlation with high cholesterol and low vitamin D at some point...
Coconut oil is said to help enhance D production in the skin...
I would imagine other oils may as well...
You should not need to take Cod Liver Oil in the spring\summer\early fall; unless you have a problem with D synthesis metabolism in your body. However if you suspect you do, perhaps take it on occasion perhaps 1 - 3 times a week this time of year to prime the pump so to speak and kick it into gear.
There are other food sources of D out there... the common white button mushrooms upon exposure to UV light is one.
Wheat germ oil may be a conservative D option... and also contains E, A, B, B1, B2, B3, potassium, zinc, sulphur, phosphorous and iron according to various sources.
There are also D "fortified" wheat germ oils, however these are more commonly available in livestock feed stores.
