Do we need to call ourselves "sinners"?.
In my lifetime, I have sinned against codes of conduct, table manners, dress codes, codes of etiquette, heaven/rightness, etc., but I see no practical reason for CALLING myself a "sinner" (neither do I CALL water "water", water IS "water" regardless of what anybody wants to CALL it). The Lord said there should be no "self abasement" (Colossians 2:18), meaning no belittlement of yourself.
Since I simply cannot be enthusiastic about persecuting and abasing myself, I really don't understand why people willingly CALL themselves a sinner.
The past is the past (but I've learned from experience that people are only as forgiving of themselves as they are of other people...and vice versa).
On the cross, Jesus made sin a thing of the past for those who claim Him as savior. Technically, it still exists in that it is still possible to sin against (violate) table manners, etc. The prodigal son even violated rightness ("sinned against heaven"), but the victim (dad) reacted the same as God would.
"Sin" is a crazy "doctrine" (understanding) to deal with because it (sin) is....DEAD now that Jesus "killed" it (it no longer is anything that the human being must be aware of (as long as we have the FRUIT OF LIGHT and are spiritually INSIDE OF Jesus the savior).
It is OUR character/spirit that, if compatible with GOD'S SPIRIT, will make us children of God (our character has to be "good and right and true") if we acknowledge that Jesus is the savior.
Ephesians 5:6 and 9
"walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true).
1 John 1:5
"God is light".
Romans 8:16
"it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God".
What Jesus accomplished on the cross is PERMANENT and for ALL humanity (ALL human beings have salvation available to them, not only those who profess "Christianity")...
Luke 3:6
"and all flesh shall see the salvation of God."
There are many people who do not know how to read, and there are people who never had a decent chance to know the real truth of the gospel (but are truly decent people...."good and right and true"). I don't imagine that God will hold it against them that they don't know Jesus's name (we know how to read and are responsible to know more about God).
If we have a character of "good and right and true", then we will have the GUARANTEE of what Jesus made available to all humanity.
Ephesians 1:14
"which is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it".
Leave it to humanity to complicate things and imagine that we must abase and shame ourselves no matter how decently we live our lives.
Looking at the process of salvation, I see no requirement or benefit of CALLING ourselves anything at all, or admitting/applying to ourselves what used to be in effect.
I never, ever understood why people receive JOY out of calling themselves "sinners".
WHO CARES if we have sinned and can still violate table manners, etc.? (the self-persecuting victim complex??? or is it pleasing to our conscience because of our reluctance to forgive others?).
God said there should be NO "SELF ABASEMENT".
