look what man hath wrought

to say al gore is an idiot is to say molten lava is hot. duh.

but i must say the cave man in me was disturbed this weekend.

http://www.titanicbranson.com/

we toured the titanic interactive museum and it was well worth the time and ticket price($22USD).

for all those romantics, they play heavily on the movie and have original clothes and what worn in the movie. they recreate some of the rooms to scale, and even the building itself is one half scale of the original. but that is not what got me.

the enormous hubris of man kept flying in my face. no, i do not think god was offended by the epithet "unsinkable" and went gunning for the boat.

what i do think is that all of this technology we have today is ill thought out. we are killing ourselves with pride and prejudice and a fantasy that our strivings here on earth are of any consequence at all except a gigantic waste of time and resources.

in todays dollars, a bunk in third class was about a thousand dollars while the most expensive ticket, paid by john jay astor and his new 18 yo bride was equivalent to $125,000. literally, no expense was spared. even the flooring, at the grand staircase we all recognize, was not marble. it was made of a more expensive covering having just been invented and sure to impress the most gilded of passengers - linoleum.

john boy ultimately paid even more for his accomodations - with his life. i wonder if he thought it worth it all?

america still tries to emulate mr astor. we are all kings and queens on the earth compared to much of the rest of the world. we would rather die than give up one inch of what we have worked so hard to attain. and die we will.

the planes in the air, the cars on the ground, the waste we pour into our rivers, the entire mountain ranges of crap we bury in landfills - it is all going to kill us dead and keep us from having any viable progeny. perhaps this is merciful, for what insanity have we left to our children? their heritage is a polluted world and unfathomable debt.

man is an imbecile. his good pleasure has been the death of us all and of the planet we call home. i hope he is happy. we can all join john jay and ponder the question, "was it worth it?"
