Here lies the problem, who decides which of the people can be armed? , just because someone is law abiding on day does not mean this will always be the case, (hence the many murder suicides). Just because someone is in their right mind one day does not mean they will be sane the next. Violence begets violence, its a cycle not a way of life, if you feed the cycle it will continue.

I live in a country with strict gun control, we still have violent crime, criminals can get hold of guns if they really want them, but I feel a lot safer here than somewhere that there is no gun control. I don't have to worry about my neighbour going psycho and shooting dozens of people during a psychotic break.

Gun control laws by themselves will not solve the problem of violence in society, this requires a change in thinking.
