--answer--Soil organisms and food quality

I have tested veg in a 2.5 acre small scale commercial organic farm.

Flair spray was used on the whole area.

Only one or two specific locations had organic matter as mulch added generously to feed the soil organisms. Those areas consistently had top quality produce. Brix was very high and very fuzzy. Some of the patty pan squash were successfully dry stored without refrigeration for over a year.

The areas without the mulch had a moderate brix percentage and only a very slightly fuzzy line in the refractometer, even if over fertilized with a kelp based foliar spray to the point where damage occured to the plants. There was also a huge problem with the tomatoes and melons spitting open due to the lack of moisture and temperature modulation that mulching would have provided.

Wheat grass, if grown the usual way in a liquid medium, Would have the same problems due to lack of interaction with soil organisms, only more so, since no soil, would it not?

For Moreless: Any way to solve this, or better to forget about water-sprouted and/or hydroponic grown food???

Answer: You are finding out about the value of Mulch that may also feed the Soil Life and How this may produce Better Quality foods by the above findings you have posted !

As to the problem of Poor Quality of most Wheatgrass that most folks may end up trying to grow, what can be done?

Maybe we should look at what may be Simplest and Best?

If a person will just set up and just Sprout seeds and use these in Salads, this may provide much Greater Benefit !

The Simple process of just Sprouting seeds may Greatly Improve the Benefit gotten from the Seed !

The problem with trying to go beyond the Sprout and grow this Sprouted Seed into a Leaf plant to harvest as Juice may be in that one may have a Great problem with Low Brix and NPN?

Plants Naturally may have a Low brix reading when younger, than when it has Matured more, unless they have the needed Alkaline Minerals Complexed into them?

Here is where the problem comes in !

Most folks will not come to understand, nor take the time to understand what may need to be done to raise the young plants brix readings Higher!

Thus most folks attempting to grow Wheatgrass for Juice may end up with Poor Quality grass full of NPN?

There are ways to learn to raise Top Quality Wheatgrass, but it is my observation that mankind is generally not able to learn to apply this needed info !

So, what is one to do?

Learn to do the Simplest and use a Refractometer to Best Select the Best Quality foods to eat !!!!!!!!!!!!!

For if a person cannot do the Simplest thing How are they going to be able to accomplish something more Complicated?
