Fleas and Zappers

I have seen electic flea combs for sale, but none of them give specification.
Will the zappers that we use on ourselves do the job?
I have a pet Zapper, but it is difficult to get the electrodes to stay in contact with the skin, so I have not been able to give it a fair trial.
