Re: New Puppy - Flea, Heartworm and Vaccine Alternatives
thanks for the response. Do you know of an online community or discussion forum where people are successfully non-vaccinating?
My main concern is keeping her healthy, of course, and I had planned to do a raw diet (which I learned the hard way on my last dog is difficult to balance nutrients, so I am doing a frozen pre-prepared raw this time around), but also the restraints and restrictions placed on our pets when it comes to things like training classes, boarding, grooming, and social events. Always with the current on
vaccinations requirements, though I hear some places will now accept titers.
I would really like to find out how people who are doing totally natural care successfully are managing the dog having a "social life" and being able to take them places when
vaccinations are required. And what they do when an emergency comes up, because my dog was refused once at a 24 hour clinic because she wasn't current on vaccines, and she was an elderly dog!
I followed the routine
vaccination recommendations with my first dog until she was maybe 7 or 8 and then stopped. I did not know better then, but she was fine until about age 14 when her kidneys started failing. It's possible that what I did right with the raw diet kept her free from major disease or autoimmune problems until then, I'll never know for sure. I have heard stories about puppies dying from parvo & stuff because people didn't want to vaccinate, and so I do have some concerns - like what if despite my best intentions, she gets sick and would not have if I had vaccinated her. WE live in a pretty urban area, and there is a lot of yucky stuff out there, I'm sure. Stray animals, people who don't clean up after them, squirrels and pigeons. I want to take her to puppy class for the training and important socialization with other dogs, but she won't be allowed without having had all her "puppy shots."
On the
Colloidal Silver - I was under the impression that taking it daily would kill healthy gut flora, along the lines of taking
Antibiotics all the time? I have not used it myself, other than as a spray for the occasional topical issue because I've read conflicting information about whether it's healthy to ingest it routinely.
