I believe most retainers are made of polycarbonate plastic, the same stuff Nalgene water bottles are made of. Polycarbonate is made of Bisphenol-A. You may have heard the health scare about Bisphenol-A in Nalgene bottles and baby bottles etc... well Bisphenol-A also used to make retainers and tooth sealants and composite tooth fillings. It is estrogenic and I believe affects hormones etc...
