If you have trouble getting started on a fast, start with a pre-cleanse diet. For a week, eat like this:
Breakfast: Fresh fruit smoothie with plain yogurt (the kind with a good culture)
Lunch: Big fresh salad dressed with lemon and garlic
Dinner: Homemade vegetarian vegetable soup
Switch dinner and lunch if you like, and drink lots of water, herb teas and fresh juices (easy on the fruits).
After a week of this, start your fast. Fast on juices, or do The Master Cleanser , both of which give you lots of support. Once you get past day 3 it is rare to experience hunger, except the kind between your ears.
Be sure to keep your colon clean every fasting day.
