Hi, I removed mine myself, same reason, I live a long way from a gyno and wanted it out. If you can feel your strings its really quite easy. I washed my hands with antibacterial soap, then lay on the bed, used my fingers to grasp the strings and gently pulled, breathing out as I pulled. It came out very easily with no pain at all. I did stay lying down for about 10 minutes after removal. As soon as it was out my back pain and bloating dissappeared, I had some spotting for 2-3 days after removal and then got my regular period 4 weeks later. A lot of women experience a crash after removal, I was worried about this but it never happened to me. I had the mirena in for 3 1/2 years and these were the worst years of my life, now I am 4 months post removal and I've lost a lot of weight, my skin and hair are great and I am no longer moody or angry all the time. good luck and the best of health to you
Let us all know what happens, its really important to support those who have had such horrible problems with these things.
