on the subject of free vs. bound mercury - is it possible that mercury is held bound up in cells as a preventative method by the body? in other words, there is too much free mercury so the body binds some up in cells as a way trying to reduce its damage. now, isn't it also possible that if an agent like DMSA is used to chelate free mercury that eventually the body will determine its safe to release its bound mercury and that mercury will then become free mercury and then it too will be able to be chelated by the DMSA?

Anyhow the largest burden is the brain and even there eventually with the body burden lifted there will be osmosis and some Hg will come out.
The second largest however is Hg burned into the tissue and organs, ALA is required for this but when ALA does this job it will free more then it can bind. This is why moving up in ALA is so much more difficult than DMSA.
