I don't know whether this has bearing on your case, but I personally find that foods forbidden to people with ulcers or herpes are what trigger my heavy bleeding (including sometimes urethral bleeding). Especially during week I expect my period, & stress makes it worse.
That means I avoid:
Citrus, chocolate, caffeine, nuts, (arginine), alcohol, etc.
Interestingly, Julia Chang of sensiblehealth states that cherries is estrogenic & thus to be minimized from diet. But I myself & some others have found that lots of black cherries, if taken during week I expect period, causes my period to be postponed, and can mitigate heavy bleeding if taken for a few days (without other foods except maybe 2 oz. plain yogurt) first thing in morning. Or, alternatively, alot of black cherry concentrate.
Still, I do believe it affects hormonal balance, otherwise why does it mitigate bleeding? So maybe cherries should only be used in emergency situations - like the woman who'd been bleeding for weeks after miscarriage & her doctor didn't help her. When I advised lots of Bings (it was summertime) that helped her.
