Need Advice ASAP

Trapper or anyone, My son just called, said he has been having times when he is trying to fall asleep that he all of a sudden will feel a powerful jolt go through his body as if he has just touched a hot wire, he said he has had this happen everynight this week, last night it was so bad that he said it jolted his head so hard that he had buzzing in his ears. I am wondering if he may be just falling into a sleep when this happens because I have had that happen just I am going to sleep and get a jerk as if I was falling but it sound much more severe than that, any thoughts on this?
