Re: Anyone please help me, Here is my situation:

Cmadison, it's amazing that I've found your post. I am 22 (just turned 22) and have had an extremely similar situation!

Like you, I was completely and perfectly feeling fine and then one day, BAM! It hit me and hasn't left. I was stressed over a few things going on in my life, and I sat down June 6th of 08 last year for a drink, well, a LOT to drink, I was a big drinker. I had never had gin before (have had vodka/whiskey all the other hard stuff) and so I decided to try it.

The first glass went down fine, 2nd fine, 3rd fine. Then I made a big strong mix of half lemon juice/ginger ale half straight gin in a big beer mug. Halfway through this potent concoction I started getting the extreme desire to sigh. I kept catching my breath. I wasn't really hyperventilating or out of breath, I just had this involuntary desire to catch my breath as if I was coming out of a bad mood or was really bored, each time I caught it, I would be relieved for a few seconds.

Even in my drunken state I thought "well this is odd". I have no alcohol allergies whatsoever either. I am not a hypochondriac, I hadn't even gone for a doctors checkup in 5-8 years. So I go to bed and the next day I wake up to a tickling in my throat. It feels the same as one gets when they run their max and have to catch their breath but they feel that constricting/tickle deep down on each breath.

So I went to the doctor and had the medical merry-go-round. First I was told it was a simple hangover and they wanted to talk to me about getting "help" for my drinking/"self-medicating" as they called it. They said to call them back in a couple days if I still had my symptoms.

I had Japanese food the night of the gin which involved sushi and an extremely spicy beef jerky, so I'm not sure if I somehow got a parasite from the food, but if it was a parasite, that's a pretty damn fast acting parasite. I even searched up on what gin can cause and believe it or not, they actually used it to CURE stomach ailments back in Europe, lmao.

So I call them back and they decide to do a chest x-ray, as the tickling just doesn't go away. Chest X-Ray = negative along with a negative EKG (heart test). They then speculated I could have some digestive disturbance i.e of the acid variation. Which makes no sense as was a big eater and even collect some of the hottest sauces in the world which don't bother me. So they tried me on a double dose of prilosec, to no avail, it just made my stomach literally twitch in my ribs and make me feel strange.

Around mid-June, I got my swallowing symptoms. Swallowing seemed harder than normal in the regard that there would still be small grains of food in the back of my throat and I'd have to swallow more frequently. July came and I was thoroughly worried, it hadn't gone away. My 4th of July was ruined, and my college was severely hampered. I'm a college student with a focus on criminal law with the long-term goal of attending a law school. Lets just say, I was unable to even get to class due to the mental nostalgia of my former health bearing on me and my relentless symptoms. To this day, I still have not re-enrolled, as I still have my symptoms and then some.

Let me continue my story. So I explained the swallowing and breathing situation and the doctor immediately proclaimed "GERD!". After taking all their PPI's etc. which did nothing to help me at all or relieve my symptoms, I later went on to find out this would be a popular diagnosis for any symptoms involving everything from coughs to stomach cramps in order to sell the pills.

So I was referred to a pulmonologist, lungs tested out above normal and perfect although he said my sinuses looked swollen and my throat was semi-red, he suggested allergies, trialed me on clariton, it did nothing and he never followed up with me again.

Around July I got feelings of impending doom. I didn't know why this was happening to me. I suffered my first panic attack in my entire life. I had extreme anxiety due to my symptoms, and never, ever, had experience this before. I had no history of mental health problems or physical problems, the symptoms were just vexing and the doctors couldn't help.

I was sent to a gastroenterologist who told me the same story about acidity and after telling him all my symptoms, he said some sound like it could be something else but he didn't elaborate. At this point around August I had developed a sore throat that would appear randomly, excessive mucous in the back of my throat especially when eating/after eating, excessive salivation, a strange sweet taste in my saliva that would be bitter sometimes too, constant bloating as if I had eaten a huge meal when I barely had anything (sound familiar?), constant burping no matter what I had in my stomach or what I ate, mucous in my stools, loose/hard stool extremes, stool abnormalities (powderesque material in them), burning in my throat/lower throat/neck radiating to the head sometimes, coated yellow/white tongue, extreme tiredness after meals as if I had eaten a huge thanksgiving dinner, a hazy out of it feeling like I'm not myself, and when I lay on my right side immediately the tickling is worse in the throat, and it's not "acid reflux"-related, it's positional, I start moving to the right and instantly feel it. Oh yeah, and throughout all this I had gas so excessive that it could quote shakespear.

Whatever you do, don't let them tell you that it's "acid reflux disease" or some crap like that. I was 100% fine before June 6th, 100%, even 100% on June 5th 12-3 AM. To this day I suffer and have had an endoscopy from that gastroenterologist that revealed nothing but a small sliding 2-3 cm hiatal hernia, it was so tiny that it was even missed on the barium swallow and was told it was too small to cause my symptoms, also it's one of the most misdiagnosed things in medical history and most of us have one.

It doesn't matter what/when I eat, I have these symptoms round the clock from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. I really want it to go away and have this irrational fear that it'll be forever. Its been 7 months total and my quality of life is shattered. I tossed my life down, no college atm, no job, can't get up on time, can't sleep, can't drink to relieve my pain...well..tried it before...it just isn't fun as fun when you feel crappy.

I'm an extremely resilient person with extremely strong genes. Prior to June 6th I was able to drink whole bottles of whiskey without passing out or throwing up. Now some have said this has contributed to my problem, but I've since stopped the alcohol and the symptoms remain. It seems once a new one comes, it just stays. The tickling initial symptoms came June 6th, the burping came July 28th, the burning throat came August 14th, the mucous problems and saliva issues came in September/October. A very new symptom is a heat feeling that emanates at the back of my neck and goes to my head sometimes, and it will literally feel hot on the skin. I have all these things to this day.

I've gotten rid of my water bed, tried herbs, supplements, everything you can think of. MH has given me advice here and he's the only person whose been able to actually give me the correct guidance.

I know what you're going through, I too want to be the same again and return to my pre-symptom days. I've even contemplated suicide since I couldn't fathom having this forever. I hope we can get better, this can't last forever, we have to get to the bottom of this and correct our problems. Don't believe the IBS/GERD BS, that diagnosis means nothing other than they want to steal your life and money by putting you on potent drugs which do nothing to fix the root cause.
