Why break a fast with fruit?
Hello,
I have been thinking about the end of my 40 day fast and how to break it.
I just took it for granted that i would break it with fruit as this is what all the fasters say to do.
But one person on my guestbook posted this:
"Your body is operating in fat burning mode at the moment, with positive results ? yes
Why break your fast with carbohydrates (fructose specifically - the worst of all the carbs) ? You are undoing all your good work by kick-starting the insulin cycle that fasting so successfully stopped. Once insulin is back on the scene, fat burning is shut down and fat storage begins again.
Here is a link to a good summary of what i'm trying to get at :

is:_what_is_normal.3F
Obviously , i come down on the ketosis side of the debate and believe it's a totally normal (and preferred) state of operation of our metabolisms.
If it wasn't , you would have died very early on into your fast.
Your body is running beautifully on fats at the moment , why switch back to carbs ? "

Does he have a point? Maybe fruit is the healthy way to break a fast, but since i'm fasting primarily for weightloss, wont fruit just pile the fat back on?
Thanks
