Wow, thank you so much for the detailed answers! I've now eliminated option 3, doing nothing. The whole porcelain piece has come off, first a few chips then the whole shell popped off. Believe me, I will NEVER chew ice again!
One more question - I can't remember if getting a crown is a one time visit or do they fit it one day and then you go back to get it installed?
I don't really know how to tell if a dentist is 'good.' I like my biologic dentist because he was referred by Hal Huggins and I trust him not to use any metals. He did a canine bridge for me that he sent to a lab in Germany to get the very best materials and workmanship and then spent a lot of time and effort making sure it matched and fit good. He takes pride in his work and enjoys himself and I felt like he cared about me and what he was doing. But he's in Miami and that's an all day, stressful drive.
The other dentist does metal free work but not exclusively and his practice seems to focus a lot on cosmetic work. Though maybe that's just because he happens to be in West Palm Beach and that's what pays the bills. I like him because he's only 45 minutes away. I have no idea if he's 'good' though, I only went to him once. But if a crown is a simple affair maybe he would be a better choice to save the time and aggravation of driving to Miami.
I will definitely ask about the nightguard. I didn't realize you were a dentist, it's very generous of you to take the time to post on Curezone. Thank you.
At least I've narrowed it down. Thank you very much, you've no idea how much better I feel. I honestly didn't know what to do, thinking about going to the dentist again makes me feel like just going back to bed and pulling the covers over my head. THANK YOU!
