Yes, we don't have to be subject to wordly vices, but how many of us are really beyond them? Look at the Buddhist monks they know that wordly possesions are evil, so what do they do? They abstain from all material possesions, they wear simple clothing eat simple food live in a secluded area. Keep themselves distant from regular society. However, if we were all to follow that lifestyle this world good or bad would cease to exist.
Be of the world, but live above it. Just as the lotus flower floats on the water (material world) but is above the water and not consumed by it. It's rather difficult, but when the mind is cleansed with true love for the Lord, then only then can one see clearly. As for being perfect, this world is perfect no matter what anyone says...define perfection and then we can discuss.
