Re: Me Generation

taught my daughter, first thing, when she was able to hold that little rifle.

See, firearms require safety lessons, they're a pretty big deal for a little kid. So when you properly instruct them in the safety aspects of something so potentially dangerous, and then explain that many tools are potentially dangerous if they're mis-used, the little kids begin to learn responsibility, and they learn right from wrong. Although beginning with firearms, such a lesson expands and permeates all aspects of life and the use of tools, including screwdrivers (potentially deadly as an ice-pick), matches, drugs, electricity, hair dryers, etc.

Putting a burden of responsibility on a person at a young age, in my experience, leads to development of good habits of responsibility in all areas. Its not necessary, but sure seems to be sufficient.
