It appears that the magnesium of choice for the medical profession is magnesium sulphate and information on magnesium oxide is more difficult to find. However this is a very general statement and Magnesium Oxide is used as a laxative prior to an operation where emptying of the bowel is important. I gather that it works more quickly that Epsom Salts .
