Re: Durians are in season!

the durian is native to south east asia and eaten by presumably millions of people. it is eaten as a sweet, as a savoury, eaten fermented, made into juice etc. it is high in protiens, minerals and fats.

there are many delicious tropical fruits that have spikes on them, eg, the jackfruit, soursop, and rollineas i know and enjoy from my garden. i'm sure there are many more i can't think of right now. presumably the spikes have evolved to deter animals from eating them before they have ripened and are ready to spread their seed.

it is a shame to deprive yourself of the delights of this world for fear and superstition. better to do the research if it makes you feel safe, then dive into the gastronomic pleasures of altogether new foods and flavours.
