Re: I would like to know...
I have come to believe this...

What is meant by "need"? A study of minerals will find that when one mineral is in higher abundance in the body than one or more others that may be required for "balance", the uptake of the "needed" minerals is greatly enhanced... when balance is achieved, absorption is limited to need ONLY... the body is intelligent this way... it has to do with the physical reaction between the acids and bases... electromagnetic energy, ionization, whatever you want to call it.
If you are giving the body ALL needed minerals\elements in moderate amounts, it will pick and choose from what is offered as needed, YOU WILL NOT OVERDOSE on any of them. This last statement is NOT true however IF you are focusing on one, or just a few minerals... an unhealthy imbalance can occur in this condition as the body WILL absorb what it needs to enable and prolong life even if it is a less than ideal, mineral\element, or even a toxic metal like lead, aluminum or mercury.
In other words, the body can and does make substitutions with less than ideal minerals\elements in order to make due in the absence of what may be preferred.
End...
The body's feedback loops... the feedback loops can be faulty, however, even in this case, like a dry gasoline engine and carburetor, the body can be primed with the needed fuel (minerals\elements) over time and correct the problem in most cases.
All you have to do to answer your\the Q, is to think about (you do not really have to understand completely "why") all of the discussions here in this forum on the needed co-factors in
Iodine supplementation and iodine's direct and indirect antagonists...
Another little ditty to understand is that this board is full of people from all over the globe... each eating foods harvested from different soils, grown with variations in farming practices, which all affect nutritional value. The author in my posts has recognized, in part, that food grown and consumed in one region can be very rich in a particular mineral, offsetting the balance of another that may be in short supply or absent in the same diet.
This is one reason why traditional ethnic cooking varies so much from country to country, region to region... the missing nutritional pieces being filled, best as possible, by the herbs and spices used based upon thousands of years of "live" research...
The Spice trade was not a "gold" mine in days of yore by accident.
Another reason why we find spicy foods in more southern regions of the same countries... that and adaptation to climate, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-parasitic values.
We all have to make adjustments to any protocol individually based upon OUR (It may vary between spouse and\or child) need and diet... especially if we eat locally or regionally. Knowing the mineral\element content of the soil and the food you eat from it can help.
