I don't know what to do about the recent events. Actually, I do. Obvious that we were headed in that direction. Inflated home prices($500,000 for a surfer shack in Pleasure point in Santa Cruz). Housing boom, new "planned communities" popping up like bromide zits in my neck of the woods. Insanely inflated home values, our place tripled in value.
Everybody gets a house. Don't have the $? No problem, we'll write you an interest-only mortgage or hey, how about a balloon payment mortgage? Surely you'll have the $ in a few years!
Credit, credit, credit, up the yin-yang. You too can drive an escalade and look important talking on your
Cell Phone . Don't forget the bling!
People don't know how to manage money. They look at potential purchases in terms of how much an item will cost per month, and whether they can afford that amount per month based on current income. They stretch themselves so thin that there is no room for error. Cuz geez, ya gotta keep up!
I could go on and on but I won't. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that it's our own fault for being so gullible, for buying into the mythology of the "good life" that the media crams down our throats, that possessions are the key to happiness. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of our holdings and possessions but we don't go into hock for them.
