Re: A Warning to you all.

InCharge,

Contrary to what your post has suggested I did not advise anyone not to fast because of their health condition, but mainly to seek professional guidance in cases of having a potentially serious disease, which should in the first instance be accurately diagnosed. On this basis a fast can either be approved or otherwise.
The faster in question was already underweight before the commencement of her fast of 29 days: the combination of this, and the uncertain self-diagnosis could have ended in disaster.

If the potential faster had researched their disease and the fasting process thoroughly, then the decision to undertake a fast of great length had to be their own, but I would expect a high degree of transparency with this ailment before anyone offers advice, and after they have already asked for it through this forum.

No one but no one is advocating the use of drugs, and in your own case steroids for your UC, and where fasting could be of great benefit, so this is not really the issue here; the choice you had was to research your health condition yourself and seek alternative ways (instead of mainstream) of resolving the same, or seek professional & alternative guidance and ultimately the supervision needed for a fast if so advised, & based on the advice of that professional.
To avoid mainstreams management of your disease, which fails to address the underlying causes, gives you a great deal of credit, as many people are content with this approach to health-care and a possible lifetime of suffering.

I think the noun "warning" in my subject-line was more suitable and relevant, as this was intended to attract as much attention to my post as possible, and which seems to have had the desired effect, as after all, this was a stark message as to the consequences of failing to adhere to experienced, sensible, and sound advice.

The warning I gave (or advice) was intended for every member who visits this forum, and judging by the content of the posts we receive here was long overdue, as many arrive with the intention of undertaking a fast without the slightest knowledge as to its benefits or dangers, or even how to conduct one.
I also believe it is the responsibility of those of us that have a great deal of knowledge and experience with the fasting process, to convey the seriousness of this undertaking, and why Shelton himself described the fast as "the Science and fine art of fasting"........which indeed it is.

One final word: Dr Keki Sidhwa ND DO, one of the longest-established Natural Hygienic Doctors in the World, is on record as saying that no one should undertake a fast of longer than five days if they have a serious health condition without professionally qualified advice and/or supervision. This is what prompted my original post, and only because of the welfare of the faster in question.

Regards

Chrisb1.
