Re: starting water fast tomorow, first day of spring. need guidance ?

It's never too late to start over, do it now, you have your whole life ahead. Good or bad grades in High School will mean nothing to you in a few years, my maths teacher once looked out of the window and said "there is a man parking a Rolls Royce out there. If any of you want to own a Rolls Royce, you should not be here studying mathematics." Concentrate on your health and fitness then you will have a better knowledge of what you want out of life. You have already taken a major step by coming here. In 5 10 or 20 years you will probably look back and remember that step, thinking what a difference it made, and how bad things may have been if you didn't choose to take control of your life. You only get one life, so make the most of it, for your own sake!!

Also I suppose you could argue I was an alcoholic, but Water Fasting made it easy for me to give it up for 9 months. I did drink on holidays a couple of weeks ago, and found I could give it up just as easily again. So I am fine with that.

As far as how much water you should drink, well, it's a common question, but my answer is, when you are thirsty. Start trusting that body of yours, it's a well designed and higly sophisticated machine. You don't need a written manual to check for frequency of water top ups, it has a fully automatic sub-concious-thought driven and muscle operated spill proof refill system with a silent to increasing discomfort warning system for low levels. Actually, I just realised, I am topping mine up now as I type without even thinking about it!

As far as losing fat instead of muscle is concerned, you would not be here if your grandparents lost fat instead of muscle when there was a shortage of food. Follow Chris's advice as mentioned by LivingBlessed above. Again your body will tell you when you need to start eating again.

As regards putting weight on again, you will put some on, because when you fast you empty your stomach and intestinal system, this has to be refilled. I have lost around 70 pounds since I started fasting last November, and I have just completed a test period of a few weeks when I didn't weigh and ate what I wanted. The results are here:

So I think you would agree I am pretty stable. The extraordinary thing about Water Fasting is that it seems to reset your appetite and you tend to start eating sensible things when you start eating again - namely good healthy foods. Don't worry if you don't like them now, you will soon. Going back to the car analogy, you will soon be topping up with high octane racing car fuel rather than recycled bio-diesel.

So there you go. Good choice. The world is your oyster.

Having said all that, you may have a rough time on the first fast, and all your friends and family will think you are crazy. Well, did you really want life to be easy and boring!!??

Lastly, first day of spring eh? You must be from one of those upside-down places then. Lucky you!
