Re: Furhman and the MD mindset

I haven't read him, and honestly don't feel inspired to. I truly think most MD's are brainwashed to believe in the body as a sort of glorified machine, that could at any moment break down. Their thinking is fear-based, as are their "treatments", which only perpetuate fear and dependency on the part of patients. Their very training is 'parts-oriented', like mechanics, though perhaps with even less sense of the whole as something wondrous, not only physical. I can understand how some of what you read was dispiriting.

Here's something really weird. I had a moment today when I suddenly got the notion (and this is totally out there) to begin to train as a doctor!!! It must be some "eighth day" WF anomaly: some tinkering going on in the brain :-)

It seemed, for about five minutes, like a brilliant plan. I'm old enough that when I finished the training, people would assume I'd been a doctor for years. ( = trust and respect)I could 'change the system' from the inside, and practice a completely non-medical-model "medicine". Would I be allowed NOT TO prescribe the latest drug?
Probably not. It would be interesting just to get an inside look at the whole catastrophe. Trouble is, I'm sure I could never keep my mouth shut long enough not to get in trouble for thinking independently and holistically. Drat.

EDIT:
unfortunately, most people going to doctors only want someone else to take care of them. To tell them what to do. To give them a "scriipt", as if it was the holy word.
It goes a lot deeper than the physical. They either want to feel they "have" a doctor, who works *for* them, as in "my doctor said", or they are afraid to take responsibility, (or both) and want someone else to 'enable' them to carry on doing what they want, much like any addict wants such a one. It's really a very complex
(but ultimately transparent) psychological game.
