Re: sufficient water

This water question is an interesting one--and there are divided opinions on it. Shelton and others (who fasted and observed many many people)are not in agreement with
drinking more than "according to thirst". On a normal day of not fasting 32 ounces of water would be needed mostly to mobilize a lot of the junk food people eat.(that would be most things non-fruit or vegetable, which supply their own water--especially the fruit)

according to thirst--on a Water Fast of longer than a few days, a person can feel the body working at progressively deeper levels. Concurrent with this, and with the fact that there is no energy being spent on digestion or elimination, is a need for less water. Sometimes a person fasting will feel thirst, and other times, there's no call.
I think the notion of a set amount of water goes against the spirit and essence of the long water fast.

As with the dictum to drink eight glasses of water a day - which I admit to promoting for years- I now see that that too, is speaking to the general ill-health of people, rather than 'good health'. In that regard, the drink more water idea is rather allopathic, (treating symptoms) when you really reflect on it.

Another interesting thing to consider: the people who really do NEED these eight glasses a day just to move the mass(eating SAD and worse) will never do it. They're the diet coke and coffee types, who think any liquid is as good as or better than water. The ones who DO listen to the 8 glasses notion and follow it are likely washing away good minerals, and diluting already low stomach acid: they're the ones transitioning to greener diets; becoming vegetarian; vegan and raw. (who don't need that much water--unless they are really working hard, sweating it out. And in that case they need good Sea Salt too, or they risk feeling spacey and weak and losing faith with "good" eating)

I think a lot of us on a healing path (having retired the MD specialists)have somehow got the idea we can purify ourselves simply with mega-doses of water. It's just not that simple. It is though, remarkable what the body can do if left alone on this WF 'retreat'-- when it can get away from all imposed ideas of what's correct (according to outside thinking)

I strongly encourage anyone with a sense of humour and a very strong will (to think for her/himself to read Purinton: follow Mouseclick's posts to find where he set up a very nice page of chapter links on the subject of what Purinton calls "the conquest fast"

This would be especially of interest maybe to the poster who was considering "a hunger strike".
