Re: Too much water? Drowning Electrolytes?(EDIT)

Hello gildersleeve,
that is an interesting account as to the causes of your dehydration, but this is my take on the matter.........

A Climate with high temperatures will result in a greater demand from the body for more electrolytes (and other nutrients) as these will be utilized by the body in combating the heat, and in addition, these higher temperatures will also result in the elimination of these electrolytes by perspiration and sweating; so yes, under these conditions, when the body is exposed to excessive heat, coupled with activity, this results in their greater expenditure.

Ideally a water-fast should be conducted in ideal temperatures that are comfortable for the body: neither too hot nor too cold, but in the real World this isn't always possible.
Of course diarrhea is a symptom of dehydration which could have been caused by the excess sweating, even though you were consuming large quantities of water, and where the best treatment for dehydration is drinking water and "stopping fluid loss". Water is preferable to sport drinks and other commercially-sold rehydration fluids, as the balance of electrolytes they provide (which are usually of an inorganic origin and of little use to the body) may not match your replacement requirements.

It is highly likely that the main cause of your dehydration was an electrolyte imbalance/deficiency caused by excessive sweating and activity in the heat, but the only way to reliably replace and replenish these, is with a high quality diet of organically grown fruit and vegetables (also of a high water content) either as solid food or juices.

The 2 litres of water you were drinking on a daily basis probably exacerbated the problem, as the electrolytes your bodies needed were missing from the remainder of your diet, although this is not an excessive amount of water, much of your fluid requirements should have been obtained from the aforementioned diet which I am certain would have prevented this dehydration.
Sprite or seven-up are not to be recommended as these are laden with high fructose corn syrup which has been linked to a variety of health disorders by many leading Natural Health Doctors.
The best source of sugars or carbs AND electrolyte salts that your body needs are within fruit & vegetables, and are natural sources that ARE bio-available to the body.
Sodium Chloride (or common table salt ) is essentially a poison and has no benefits whatsoever, and has been linked to High Blood pressure and other health anomalies, and where one of the best sources of sodium is from sea-salt which does.

To undertake a water fast, the safe and most recommended amount of water to drink is that laid down by thirst, and to avoid excesses in anything especially the heat, and to rest as much as possible to conserve these food reserves (and especially electrolytes)............nothing more and nothing less: excess water-drinking is an elimination burden to the body, just as excess food is also, but make sure you have a very good pre-fast diet, of at least several weeks, which will also ensure you have more than adequate electrolyte reserves, even on the most extended fast.

A Water Fast can be conducted very safely for several weeks to a month or two, but this will depend entirely on the quality of the food reserves you have acquired pre-fast with the minimal amount of physical activity to acquire the maximum benefits.

EDIT....The biggest fear of fasting is the fear of fasting itself, but this is an erroneous concept and a purely psychological one and which has no basis in fact whatsoever.

Fasting also does not cause deficiency diseases, as for example in Vitamin C deficiency the results of which are scurvy and which has never ever occurred on a water fast.............

I would also suggest that you read and study this online book which is authored by the most experienced fasting supervisor in the history of fasting...............
