I don't have an alternative, but whatever you decide, do it quickly. Most likely the infection is already spreading through your dog's body. The dog I had before (coincidentally, she was also a Lhasa Apso) had several health issues (hypothyroidism, diabetes, cushings disease). She started getting really sick. After a couple weeks of her being sick, daily trips to the vet to have IV fluids (I refused to leave her there overnight because they didn't have anyone at all that stayed with the dogs), many vet checkups, etc., somehow the vet missed that several of her teeth moved in her gums just by pushing on them. She ended up with kidney failure -- partly from the other health issues, but I feel that it got so bad so quickly due to the dental problem. Did you have blood work done? I'm not trying to scare you, but I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did with my dog if they don't have to. My friend puts a product called Oxyfresh in her dogs' water, and it has kept plaque and tartar away, but I doubt it would correct the problem of rotted teeth. Tweet
