Adaptive evolution is a fact and explains the rich diversity within any widespread species (not necessarily one confined to a small area, except as in a species like birds which have developed a dietary niche in a competitive environment) that is determined by genetic manipulation due to environmental stressors including diet etc.

Evolutionary theory support has generally come from a supposition of "transitional" evidence (fossil record) within species, for instance the development of feathers on a previously featherless flying bird\reptile. However, even this supposition is merely that without having witnessed the slow evolutionary transformation... which will never happen.

Evolution as a transition from one species to another has never been "proven" as fact, but then neither has creation. The argument for evolution or creation is superfluous, as neither one can be "proven", both relying completely on the "faith" of the believer of either.

Pleomorphism of cells is about as close as we come to that now... that and man's meddling with GMOs and genetics including Cloning animals... which may produce who-knows-what.

Perhaps it has happened before...

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Both are half right, and both are half wrong.

For instance... life would not exist without the perfect balance of electromagnetic energy, gravitational pull, the carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, etc. cycles, the sun the moon, etc. etc... in this sense, we have, in part, the pieces of "creative" force that enabled life.

And... we have the variations in climate, food availability and type, etc. that provides the driving force behind "evolutionary" adaptation within species.

I would not rule out evolutionary development from one species to another, however, the argument is a waste of time and solid proof will most likely never exist... unless something like Gould's punctuated equilibrium theory is validated in our lifetimes through man's meddling with genetics; gives one pause to the thought that it has all happened before.
