Re: Chlorine in distilled water (EDITED - broken links fixed)

It does appear that UK tap water is disinfected at source & therefore contaminated before supply.........

"28 March 2007
All public drinking water in the UK is disinfected before supply, usually by the addition of a chemical oxidant such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide or ozone and increasingly through the use of physical disinfectants such as ultraviolet (UV) light."

However, there is much conflicting information as to whether water distillation will remove chlorine; but it does remove nitrates , fluoride, ammonia, aluminum, arsenic, copper, iron, lead, mercury, radium, asbestos, viruses, bacteria, herbicides and pesticides, to name only a few. No other process is as dependable!

On the other hand........
"Many distillers today utilize a volatile gas vent, which consists of a pinhole in the top of the condensing coils to vent off any unwanted gases. If any gases happen to escape this vent, then a carbon post-filter will trap them. These charcoal filters provide double assurance that these gases will not end up in the distilled water storage tank. These filters do not breed bacteria, as only pure water passes through them.
There is no other process proven as efficient or as reliable as distillation. Water distillation will remove chlorine, nitrates , fluorides, ammonia, aluminum, arsenic, copper, iron, mercury, radium, asbestos, viruses, bacteria, herbicides, and pesticides"

Chlorine has a lower boiling point than water, and therefore will transform into a gas before the water actually boils to produce steam, and by using the above distilling process with a "volatile gas vent" ensures that the chlorine gas will be expelled and not passed into the end product.

Food for thought.
