Re: Celiac - run in a family? Can it be cured?
Thanks Paulette,
I appreciate your responses. I'm at the end of my rope with this stuff. As time goes on, I'm able to eat less and less food. I can live with that, but it is breaking my heart to watch my children deal with this too. We think that something happened to us in the house we used to live in. It happened overnight. One day, we're baking cookies, the next we can't *touch* gluten. I'm completely sold on the healthy eating, but we can't even have a teaspoon of spelt or millet w/out reacting. We'll have completely undigested stools....just little pieces of undigested food in the toilet.
My three year old points at pictures of food in books and says "me eat someday." Talk about heartbreak.
People (even alternative doctors) have told me I'm doing this to my kids, that I'm crazy, nobody can have five people in one family with celiac, etc. I'm stubborn, and keep searching for a cure, but I'm getting worn down.
Have you or anyone heard of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
http://www.scdiet.org/
It is a completely no carb diet...no potatoes, no carbs, no stevia, no sea veggies, etc. I'm considering it, but hate to put my children through yet another dietary trauma. And, the thing that bothers me is that it is just another diet...not a cure. You would think that one's body could handle some carbohydrates??? I'm not looking for cookies here, just a little hope for an occasional piece of spelt bread for my kids.
I'm also curious what may be causing all those
liver stones . Can that many stones really be in one person's body, or is there a root problem causing me to create them as fast as I can get rid of them. I'm happy what has come out is gone...I'll say that for sure!
Thanks for listening, and thanks for any info you can provide.
I guess the bottom line question is can celiac be cured, and how?
Thanks!
Regina
