hmmm... you may have already answered this question already, so forgive me if you've already gone into this, but what is your situation with dairy? you say you were raised in a vegetarian household, but based on evidence in a book i just read called "Vegan: the new ethics of eating", vegetarians who still consume dairy and eggs are only slightly healthier than regular meat-eaters.
in my personal experience, my mother fed us A LOT of milk and cheese and ice cream and i had SEVERE dry skin and eczema as a child. when i left home i stopped consuming dairy and my symptoms greatly decreased (though never fully went away, hence my continued search for my cure).
